Gemini Sweeper

Traditionally, these brooms have been used in marriage and handfasting ceremonies. In some ceremonies the broom is waved over the heads of the couple to ward off evil, who then hold hands and jump over the broom to seal the union.

Jumping the broom was something that was common in wedding ceremonies between people living in slavery in the south as a way to officiate their union, since they were not allowed to legally wed.

Measures approx. 52” long. To care for your broom, always hang, never lean, and keep dry to prolong its life. Worn bristles can be trimmed with scissors to keep the shape.

Please Note: Because of the variance in natural materials, each broom is unique and may not appear exactly as pictured.
